WELCOME TO THE RESOURCE LIBRARY!

This is still growing, but to begin with, we have a variety of resources for you to enjoy. Feel free to reach out if you are looking for a resource that isn't here.

We're looking for appropriate partners, too. Let us know if you are interested in being a Fifth Brain Collective Partner!

LINKS TO RESOURCES ON CRAFT

  • This is one of your go-to resources. Take some time to browse and enjoy. You’ll find topics you didn’t even know you needed to study.

Start with the left-hand navigation menu, which offers articles divided into subjects such as “Developing Your Novel,” “Writing Your Novel,” and “Common Writing Problems.” Each subject lists another menu of essential areas. For instance,  under “Writing Your Novel,” you’ll find “Dialogue and Internalization,” “Point of View (POV),” and “Pacing,” among other topics. Once you click on the topic you need help with, you’ll find lists of articles. Most are written by Janice Hardy, but she also invites guest authors to contribute articles. This is a tiny sampling of what you’ll find on Hardy’s site. Don’t forget to check out her “Regular Columns” listed at the bottom of the left-hand menu, where you’ll have access to the expertise of a range of authors writing in a variety of genres.

  • Under “Developing Your Novel,” this topic offers a sampling of over 40 articles on plots and subplots, prologues, opening scenes, inciting events, middles, endings, and narrative drive.

  • Under “Writing Your Novel,” the list here ranges from formatting to speech tags to infodumps.

  • Also under “Writing Your Novel,” this topic lists 21 articles on POV with a link to more at the bottom. Browse through the list and see what draws you. With titles like “How POV Can Solve Your Writing Troubles” to “Are You Talking to Me? Addressing the Reader,” you’ll find plenty to sink your writing chops into.

  • Also under “Writing Your Novel,” many of these articles are by guest authors and topics range from understanding how to control your pacing to fixing pacing problems.
